High above the Valle Isarco, in the south west of the chief village of Castelrotto, the village of San Osvaldo is located in a sun-drenched location.
San Osvaldo, a village belonging to Castelrotto, is located in the south west of the chief village, extends at 750 m asl underneath the forest of Laranz. San Osvaldo can be reached via a small road, proceeding to Ponte Gardena. Particularly striking is the bulbous spire in the centre of the village.
Probably the most famous of the 150 inhabitants is Norbert Rier, singer and front-man of the folk music group Kastelruther Spatzen. This charming folk music singer has grown up in the village, and still today he owns a particularly successful Haflinger horse breeding farm at the Fuschghof.
To those who love culture we recommend a visit in the farmers’ museum at the Tschoetscherhof farm, exhibiting items of everyday use and implements of the lives of farmers living decades ago.
Our tip: a visit of the biologic herb farm at the Pflegerhof. This is where you cannot only purchase fresh herbs, but also get some tips regarding processing of herbs.
