San Pietro

San Pietro is situated at the sunny slope of Merano and was once known as Kronsbichl.

San Pietro, a little village in the municipality of Tirolo, is located at 596 m. Surrounded by apple orchards, vineyards and forests, this little village extends from the castle moat of Castel Tirolo to the Grabbach river.

Jewel of San Pietro is its parish church, where precious frescoes of the Romanesque epoque and paintings of pre-Gothic period can be admired. Also worth visiting is Castel Thurnstein, rising in the west of the village at the slopes of the Cima Muta mountain. The castle was first mentioned in 1276 under the name “Thurm Platzleid”. Its present-day name, however, dates back to the year 1478.

San Pietro is by the way also an ideal starting point for hikes across the charming landscape of the Gruppo di Tessa nature park. Also the Roggia di Lagundo or the culture trail are ideal for spending a day together with your family.
