The mountain hike leads over the Dosso della Muta and through the Val Sopranes to the famous Sopranes Lakes

From Tirolo village, the Alta Muta Cable Car takes us up to 1,400 metres above sea level. From there, we walk above the Muta Farms, past the Steinegg inn, always following marker no. 22, up to the 1,664-metre-high Dosso della Muta (Mutkopf). On a clear day like today, we can fully enjoy the views of Tirolo village, Merano, the Val Venosta, and the Valle dell'Adige.
A steep path paved with slate leads from there up towards the Cima Muta (Mutspitze), the southeastern cornerstone of the Texel Group, which is about 600 metres higher than the Dosso della Muta. However, we do not go quite that high. At the next junction, we follow path no. 22 to the Sopranes Lakes. Below us lies the Val Sopranes valley, which has cut deep into the mountains of the Texel Group and is a protected area within the local nature park.
We look down at the Malga Bocker Hut and the Casere Inferiore Hut, where a mountain stream flows past. At about 2,000 metres in altitude, we reach the tree line and find ourselves in a high alpine landscape characterised by stones and rocks. Cows graze on the sparse meadows, and a herd of sure-footed goats has claimed the most inaccessible spots.
The trail goes up and down repeatedly, and the narrow path is well-equipped with steps. After a total of two and a half hours, we reach the 2,150-metre-high Passo di Vizze. The crystal-clear Lago di Vizze, the southernmost of the 10 Sopranes Lakes, stretches out before us. Soon after follows the slightly lower Lake Casere, situated below the Casere Superiore Hut, a popular rest point.
As we started a bit late today, there is no time for the further ascent to Lake Verde and Lake Lungo. After a short break at Lake Casere, we head back. From this easiest route to the Sopranes Lakes, we take home numerous impressions of untouched nature and views of the Merano area.
