The mountain farms of Postal, which we visit on this circular walk, are situated on the hillside above the Adige Valley south of Merano

We have chosen old cart tracks and forest paths for our spring walk. The church hill of Postal serves as our starting point. We first follow the Graf Volkmar Path, a walking route with a fitness trail, which climbs along the slopes towards the Monzoccolo. We walk north until, after one kilometre near the Förstlerhof, we see the junction for the Postal Farm Trail on our right.
As a stony path, it leads steeply up through the deciduous forest and merges into a forestry track 200 metres higher up, which leads to the permanently closed Mitterwalder snack station. Another 100 metres of elevation are left until we reach the highest point of the walk at 626 metres.
We cover this next section of the route on the paved mountain road that connects the farms. This brings us to the Hecherhof farm tavern, locally known as "Heacher", then to the Koflerhof, and finally to the Wieslerhof farm tavern, the last opportunity for a break on our spring tour.
This section runs through meadows and orchards, past the chestnut groves of the tree nursery and vineyards, repeatedly opening up views of Lana and the Val d'Ultimo mountains on the other side of the valley. Finally, the descent follows a forest path south of Postal. We proceed carefully over the slightly slippery stones as we make our way back down into the valley.
