Hike to the hill of St. Hippolytus

This spring hike near Lana, Tisana, and Foiana follows the Acquaviva, or Ackpfeif, Path to the famous St. Hippolytus hill

We start at the parish church in Lana di Sotto. This church is famous for its Schnatterpeck Altar, which visitors can see during a guided tour. From here, we head towards the Lana Golf Club and then follow path number 5 to the Acquaviva, or Ackpfeif, farms. The route climbs steadily.

Once we reach the terraces bordered by blossoming apple trees, we take path no. 5A to Narano. We pass under the viaduct of the road leading from Lana up to the Passo Palade. After that, we follow the reflection path to the Chapel of St. Hippolytus. This small mountain church dates was first mentioned in the 13th century. Here, from the St. Hippolytus hill, we enjoy a sweeping view of the Valle dell'Adige, the town of Merano, and the surrounding peaks.

Some of these mountains are still covered in snow. We follow markers no. 5, 7, and then 8 to the Obertalmühle snack station by the Brandis stream, and continue to Foiana (Völlan). We then take a leisurely walk along path no. 1, completing the loop back to Lana.

After crossing the Passo Palade road, the path leads somewhat steeply downhill. We then reach the Brandis Waalweg path, a traditional irrigation channel trail. After three and a half hours, we arrive back at the parish church of Lana di Sotto.
