Over the vineyards near Tyrol Castle: We hike from the village centre through the mixed forest up to the hamlet of Velloi

We decided to explore various landscapes of the Burgraviato area on this October day, starting in the centre of Tirolo village. First, we follow the road towards Tyrol Castle, which is closed to motorised traffic. Path no. 26 then leads to the Schneeweisshof tavern and continues westwards, after which the ascent through the forest begins.
Keeping to trail no. 26, the path climbs steadily up to the valley of the Grabbach stream. From here, it is only a short distance over to Velloi near Lagundo. The mountain village sits at an altitude of approximately 950 metres and provides an excellent view over the Valle dell'Adige to the south and towards the Val Venosta valley. Two inns are ideal for a lunch break: Oberlechner and Ladurner.
Later, we walk back along the same route. The area around Velloi is a particularly popular destination in autumn during the grape harvest and chestnut gathering.
Once the summer heat has passed, walkers appreciate the warming rays of the sun that fall on the south-facing slopes. For a shorter walk, Tirolo village also features several thematic trails, such as the Ruling Trail, the Tirolo Wine Trail, and the Tirolo Apple Trail.

- The overall time shown above refers to the walking time only, not including breaks or stops. Alternatively, there is a chairlift from Velloi to Plars near Lagundo, and a bus service Lagundo - Merano - Tirolo village for the return journey (lines 213 and 221, approx. 35 minutes).
