The road over the Passo delle Palade, or Gampenpass, has a fascinating history. Considered an architectural masterpiece, it leads from Lana over the mountain pass to San Felice, where South Tyrol meets the Autonomous Province of Trento. Senale-San Felice, along with Proves and Lauregno, make up the German-speaking municipalities of the Upper Val di Non.
All other villages in the Val di Non valley are Italian-speaking and are already part of the Trentino. Three locations make up the municipal area: After the Passo Palade comes Senale, an old pilgrimage site, followed by the farmsteads of Malgasott, and finally San Felice, the administrative centre.
San Felice is thus the main village of the municipality: The school and town hall are located there. From here, paths lead both upwards to the surrounding alpine pastures and to Lake Tret, a swimming pond and biotope high above San Felice, and downwards into the gorges, for example into the Novella Canyon with the San Felice Waterfall.
In the South Tyrolean dialect, the residents of Senale are called "Woldner", as they live near the forest (Wald), while those from San Felice are the "Berger" - mountain dwellers. If you are looking for peace and relaxation, you have come to the right place.
With the Nonsberg Group as a backdrop, which also includes the Mendola Ridge in the south of South Tyrol, there is something to experience at any time of year. In the cold months, the hiking and MTB trails become beautiful winter hiking paths, inviting you to stop at an alpine hut.
