Orchards, Toerggele evenings, farm holidays: Maragno - a tranquil, relaxing place

In the meadows of the municipality of Castelbello-Ciardes lies the tranquil little village of Maragno. Together with Lacinigo and the hamlets of Montefontana and Montefranco situated above it, it is located towards the Monte Tramontana - all other hamlets are on the other side of the Adige Valley, below the Monte Sole in the Val Venosta. Maragno is a place to find peace and quiet.
The village, at an altitude of 600 metres, transforms into a sea of white blossoms in spring. It is the time of the apple blossom, for which South Tyrol is famous, and the season for the first cycle rides and hikes in the sunny Val Venosta. Autumn, with its cosy Toerggele evenings and cycle tours on the Val Venosta Cycle Path and in the Adige Valley, also ranks among these special weeks.
Fewer holidaymakers are around at this time, which is why these periods are becoming increasingly popular. Here, you can slow down, relax and enjoy the tranquillity. Incidentally, the village of Maragno (Marein) owes its name to Saint Marinus, a saint unusual for South Tyrol. According to tradition, he was a stonemason who later lived as a hermit in a monastery.
The present-day microstate of San Marino, the world's oldest surviving republic, grew up around it. You can best experience the surroundings on a 15-kilometre cycle tour from Maragno to Laces, a beautiful half-day tour in the Val Venosta doable with a classic bicycle, e-bike, or mountain bike.
