Corces

The main hamlet of Silandro is surrounded by chestnut forests, apple and apricot trees.

Corces, also known under the name Corzes, has got about 1,000 inhabitants and is the main village of the municipality, rising at about 800 m asl, at the foot of the debris cone of the Rio Gadria river, on the slopes of the Monte Sole or Monte Mezzodì, a very sun-drenched area in Val Venosta.

Meanwhile Corces has become almost one with Silandro, only the state road of the Val Venosta separates the two villages. Corces, which has been an independent municipality for a long period of time, harkens back on a long history, its origins date back to around 1,000.

The ancient farms and the numerous churches that all deserve to be visited are testimonies of those days: the parish church, the S. Egidio church, the S. Lorenzo church and the cemetery chapel, S. Giorgio, Prati di Corces and the Rosario trail (Rosenkranzweg). Surrounded by chestnut trees and fruit orchards, above all in spring, when the trees are in full blossom, the scenery round Corces is breathtaking and an amazing feast for the eyes.
