Plan Passiria mountain carts

From Plan in the Passiria Valley, a combination lift takes you high up into the mountains: The Grünboden-Express carries you from the village to an altitude of over 2,000 metres in just three minutes. Once at the top, you will find yourself in the middle of the Gruppo di Tessa Nature Park. Thanks to the bus connection from Merano, the journey to Plan is both environmentally friendly and convenient. The 3.5-kilometre-long track from the mountain station to the valley station is one of the few forest trails in South Tyrol where you can whizz down into the valley on a mountain cart.

Before starting your descent, you can explore the surrounding area on a hike. The panoramic trail and the path through the forest to the Faltschnal Hut are considered easy. The hike to the Lazins Mountain Hut and the longer tour from the Faltschnal Hut to Lake Erensee are slightly more demanding. In winter, Plan transforms into a snow-sure winter sports resort. The Grünboden-Express then becomes one of the lifts that takes you to the slopes in the Plan Passiria Skiing Area.

Children with a minimum height of 1.25 metres are allowed to drive the carts themselves. They are called Mountaincarts Pfelders in German. However, for children under 14, the ride is only permitted when accompanied by an adult. The descent is a safe one: A helmet is provided and the disc brakes provide the necessary control over your speed. Thanks to the low seat, the cart's centre of gravity is just above the ground, which ensures additional stability and a safe ride.
