Hike from Nova Ponente to the Malga Schönrast

Easy but demanding walking tour to the mountain huts Laab, Neuhütt and Schönrast

At the crossing at the village entrance of Nova Ponente (near the Cafè Luise) we follow the signs to the Skilift, where we find the parking space near Bar Arche.

A small asphalt road proceeds to the Laab Alm, through a landscape of mild meadows and forests.

The last part towards the Laab Alm is a bit steeper - the wooden crash barriers imply that the road becomes a sled run in winter.

We have reached the Neuhütt Alm mountain hut. Here the paths to Nova Ponente, S. Pietro, Aldino and Lavazè cross.

We take the path towards the Schönrast-Alm. The cliffs by the left wayside offer a view on the different rock layers, which once were built from calcium deposits in the primordial ocean “Tethis”.

The Schönrast Alm mountain hut at 1,700 m asl. is the end point of our walking tour. Here we take a long rest, the surrounding meadows invite us to catch some sun.

Today we want to discover the beautiful walking paths on the Monte Regolo. The ideal starting point of this walking tour is the parking space in via Daum above Nova Ponente, near Bar Arche. The first section towards the Laab-Alm we walk along an asphalt road, which first proceeds through the meadows and then steeper through the forest.

There the road transitions into a gravel path (marker no. 1) which leads us further to the Neuhütt Mountain Hut. On our way we enjoy the amazing view on the Sciliar, Catinaccio, Latemar, Pala di Santa and Corno Bianco mountains.

At the mountain hut we take the path no. 2A further towards the Schönrast Mountain Hut, which is located on a big clearing in the conifer forest. Later, we turn back the same route to Nova Ponente.
