Brunico Christmas Market

Christmas magic with a South Tyrolean Stall and a Christmas Stall at the foot of Plan de Corones

The Christmas Market in Brunico delights visitors from the end of November until January 6. Over 30 festively decorated wooden huts present traditional crafts and regional delicacies around the town centre. The focus is on crafts and tradition, with Christmas decorations, South Tyrolean products and gift ideas available. For those who fancy some activity after visiting the Brunico Christmas Market, the nearby Plan de Corones Skiing Area is a great option.

The four main locations:

  • Via Bastioni (Am Graben): the centre of the Brunico Christmas Market
  • Piazza Paul Tschurtschenthaler: live concerts every Thursday
  • Via Ragen di Sopra: craft market in the Sternbach Palace and music every Wednesday evening
  • Piazza Gilm: home of the Christmas radio station

The highlights:

There are several highlights, especially for children: the St. Nicholas parade through the town, the new wooden ball run in Via Ragen di Sopra, and the living nativity scene with its procession.

High-quality local products are also showcased, such as in the South Tyrolean Stall (Südtirol Stadel), where you will find many quality South Tyrolean products, and in the Christmas Stall, which features sought-after textiles from traditional Brunico-based companies Ulbrich and Moessmer.

The "Christmas Trees" project:

The Christmas trees are decorated by social organisations, including the Trayah sheltered workshop in Brunico for people with disabilities, the Bassa Pusteria district of the South Tyrolean Cancer Aid, the Akzent art workshop & gallery, the Lichtung association for the promotion of mental health, and the youth service of the Brunico deanery.

Each tree represents the cohesion and mutual support within the community.

Sustainability at the Brunico Christmas Market:

Like all 5 Original South Tyrolean Christmas Markets, the one in Brunico has been committed to sustainability as a "Green Event" for a decade. What does this mean exactly? Traditional crafts are available from eco-friendly wooden stalls, the food stands serve regional delicacies on reusable tableware, and energy-efficient LED lighting reduces the electricity consumption.

The proceeds from the Christmas radio station on Piazza Gilm are donated to "Kinderherz Südtirol Alto Adige", an association for children with heart conditions, which is professionally supported by doctors and psychologists.

Getting to the Christmas Market:

Those arriving by train have a daily chance to win a gift package of quality South Tyrolean products. The Brunico railway station is just a few minutes' walk from the centre, and the Via Bastioni bus stop is located directly at the Christmas Market. With the Plan de Corones Guest Pass, you can even use all public transport throughout South Tyrol free of charge.

Note: The Val Pusteria railway line is partially closed until January 26, 2026, with rail replacement buses operating between Fortezza and Brunico. The reason for this is the work on the new railway line into the Val Pusteria, the "Val Riga Link", which will offer significantly more attractive journey times. All car parks in Brunico are pay and display: The largest are the multi-storey car park at the town hall and the one at Piazza Mercato di Stegona, approx. 15 minutes' walk away (250 spaces).
