Christmas in the Dolomites

The special Christmas Market in Dobbiaco with culinary highlights and crafts

Christmas in Dobbiaco in the Alta Pusteria (Hochpustertal), Christmas in the land of the famous Three Peaks of Lavaredo: From the end of November until January 6, small huts, modelled on the style of the Grand Hotel Dobbiaco, invite you to linger in the village square in front of the church.

The four main locations:

  • Pavilion: the heart of the "Christmas in the Dolomites" with a Christmas shop
  • Village centre and bandstand: "Hut of Melodies" for live concerts
  • Dobbiaco cultural centre: Advent concerts
  • Garni Café Sport: the setting for the extensive children's programme

Christmas shop in the pavilion:

At the centre of the Dobbiaco Christmas Market is the pavilion: In its Christmas shop, you will find authentic crafts. The artisans and hobbyists offer only unique, handmade items, including belts and key rings recycled from old climbing ropes, Swiss pine products, knitted dolls, jewellery, and objects made from reclaimed wood. Delicious local foods are also for sale.

You can buy baked goods in Harrry's Brotladen, various cheeses at the Alpine dairy Three Peaks stand, sweets from Patisserie Birgit, cured meats from the Hackerhof farm, and jams and syrups from "Burger". Traditional baked goods from the Val Pusteria include the "Pusterer Tirtlan".

The children's programme:

The Garni Café Sport invites children to the supervised ForKIDS programme: A creative craft corner, campfire experiences, face painting, making autumn gnomes, and fun games are all planned. The creations can be taken home or given as gifts. Participation is free, allowing you to visit the Dobbiaco Christmas Market at your leisure.

Highlights:

"Shining moments" at the Christmas in the Dolomites include the traditional Krampus run, the oldest in South Tyrol, the opening ceremony of the Tour de Ski (a multi-day cross-country skiing competition), and the New Year's Eve party on the last day of the year. In addition, the shops, restaurants, and accommodations in Dobbiaco have joined together to organise a prize draw.

You can enter with every purchase and win prizes such as the popular "Dobbiaco Tre Cime Vouchers", with a total value of several thousand euros.

The celebration on 6 January then marks the end of the "Christmas in the Dolomites" and simultaneously ushers in the International Dolomiti Balloon Festival.

Getting to the Christmas in the Dolomites:

Bus line 402 connects Brunico with Dobbiaco, and the "Christmas in the Dolomites" can also be reached in 35 minutes by the Val Pusteria railway line. If you have the SouthTyrol Guest Pass, you can use all public transport free of charge (please note: The Fortezza-Brunico railway line is closed for works until the end of January 2026 - a rail replacement bus service is in operation).

Parking is available behind the parish church, at the train station, or below the middle school, just a 5-minute walk from the centre. A motorhome parking area can be found on the Via Rienza road. Additionally, Dobbiaco has two campsites, some of which are open in winter.
