Dobbiaco used to be the summer resort of the famous composer Gustav Mahler.
Dobbiaco comprises the villages of Dobbiaco Vecchia and Dobbiaco Nuova and is considered the main village of the municipality. Already the composer Gustav Mahler appreciated the beauty of this area, where he used to spend his summer holidays from 1908 to 1910 and where he created the Ninth and Tenth Symphony and the Earth Song (Lied von der Erde) in his private composer’s hut. Still today you can visit this little cottage.
Regarding leisure, Dobbiaco has got much to offer: climbing in the climbing gym or in the climbing crag at Lago di Landro, an adventure day in the high-rope course or a tour on a Dolomite High Path, there is something for every taste.
Our tip: admire the Alta Val Pusteria and Dobbiaco from above in the frame of the Dolomiti Balloon Festival, that makes you hoover in a hot air balloon, on the traces of the Mongolfier brothers.
