The organising committee of the Val Gardena World Cup races is preparing for the 2031 Alpine Ski World Championships
Although the local sports world is currently almost entirely focused on the Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, with the biathlon competitions set to take place in Anterselva, preparations for future major events are also in full swing in the Val Gardena. The valley will host the Mountain Bike Marathon World Championships in the summer of 2030, set against the stunning backdrop of the Dolomite passes. This will be followed a few months later by the next major event of the winter season, the 2031 Alpine Ski World Championships Val Gardena-South Tyrol.
The organising committee for the "Saslong Classic" World Cup races, which have been held in the Val Gardena since 1969 and annually attract the world's elite skiers for the Super-G and downhill events, has taken charge of the preparations. A meeting has already taken place between representatives of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, the Italian Winter Sports Federation (FISI), the mayors of the Val Gardena and Castelrotto, and the board of the Saslong Classic Club.
It has already been decided that the technical discipline races in February 2031 will be held on the "Ciampinoi" piste, which is already one of the most well-known in the Val Gardena Ski Area. Further venues and the exact dates are currently being finalised.
