video : A day at Naturno
The village of Naturno, located at 528 m a.s.l., bears one of the most famous monuments of South Tyrol, which is the S. Procolo Church, considered one of the most ancient early Christian churches of the province, constructed in the 7th century. Remarkable are above all the frescoes in its interior, which represent the most ancient wall paintings in the German speaking cultural area. Also the S. Procolo Museum next to the church is worth a visit, likewise you have to see the S. Zeno Church, a Romanesque building from 1200.
High above Naturno, there is the symbol of the village, which is Castel Naturno, which until 1992 also hosted a hotel. Having been in private hands since 1952, unfortunately today it is no longer visitable. Regarding sports and leisure, you can try rafting on the Adige river, climbing on the rocks of the climbing garden, swimming in the adventure pool of Naturno or playing golf at one of the golf facilities in the surroundings. Nature provides a wide range of possibilities. Moreover, the visitors’ centre of the Gruppo di Tessa Nature Park offers lots of interesting information about flora and fauna of the protected area, it is hosted in the grammar school of Naturno.
Our tip: “bicycle and train”, rent a bike, get on the Val Venosta train, stop wherever you want to and cycle back to Naturno!
