Cornedo all’Isarco near Bolzano - the gateway to the unspoilt Val d’Ega between the Catinaccio and the Latemar
When you turn off from Bolzano into the Val d'Ega, you reach the municipality of Cornedo all'Isarco at the entrance to the valley. It is situated just before the road begins its winding ascent towards Nova Levante and the Costalunga Pass. With its five hamlets, distributed between the Isarco, the Rio d'Ega, and the Rio di Tires, it is today a small village in the Catinaccio-Latemar holiday region, conveniently located near Bolzano.
High above the municipality, Cornedo Castle rises impressively on a steep rocky hill of the Monte di Cornedo. Cornedo all'Isarco begins in Prato all'Isarco in the Valle Isarco and extends to the star village of San Valentino in Campo, which is 15 kilometres away and 800 metres higher. Together with Collepietra, it forms the largest hamlet of Cornedo all'Isarco.
In San Valentino in Campo, you will find the Astronomical Observatory Max Valier, the Planetary Path, and the Planetarium South Tyrol. In this first European Star Village in the Val d'Ega, the entire universe is within easy reach. Collepietra, on the other hand, is known for its Earth Pyramids high above the Valle di Tires. These are unique natural phenomena that change from year to year.
The mountain landscape around Cornedo all'Isarco invites you to go hiking and cycling in summer. Near Prato all'Isarco, in the valley basin, you can, for example, access the Valle Isarco Cycle Path, which takes you to the episcopal town of Bressanone. In the opposite direction, the Valle dell'Adige Cycle Path leads you along the Adige River to the spa town of Merano.
In winter, you can best explore the snowy landscape on snowshoes. Additionally, the ski resorts of the Val d'Ega - the Latemar Dolomites Skiing Area and the Ski Area Carezza Dolomites - are a short distance away, right in the middle of King Laurin's legendary realm.
