Cardano

Cardano near Bolzano is a starting point for cycle tours on the Valle Isarco Cycle Path and for hikes on the historic Kuntersweg

Where the Valle Isarco road branches off to the right and ascends into the Val d'Ega, an underpass takes you into the village centre of Cardano. It is one of the five hamlets of Cornedo all'Isarco. With its Carabinieri station, post office, town hall, and other facilities, Cardano is the administrative centre of this municipality. At just 290 metres above sea level, it is also its lowest point.

Cardano, surrounded by fertile vineyards, is well-suited as a starting point for cycle tours and hikes. On the valley floor, the Valle Isarco Cycle Path takes you on the "Art Cycle Path Bolzano - Cardano - Prato Isarco" section all the way to the towns of Chiusa and Bressanone.

This six-kilometre-long section features a sculpture garden called "Augenreise" (Eye Journey). It is a project by the KIMM sheltered workshop, whose members have artistically expressed themselves here under the motto "Art knows no disability" and have added a colourful touch next to the Valle Isarco road. Three interesting themed trails also start in Cardano (Kardaun).

They all begin below Cornedo Castle. One of them is the Kuntersweg, which connected Bolzano with the Brennero Pass as early as the 14th century. The section between Cardano and Colma, which is characterised by gorges, could be managed without arduous ascents and descents. Furthermore, the South Tyrolean Pearl Trail, a five-day hike connecting Nova Ponente, Collepietra, Nova Levante, and Tires, and the difficult five-hour Knights' Trail to Collepietra also start here.
