Selva Gardena: You are at the end of the Val Gardena, surrounded by Dolomite passes like the Gardena Pass and the Sella Pass
At the head of the Val Gardena, where the imposing Sella Massif rises, lies the municipality of Selva Gardena, Sëlva in Ladin. Here you find yourself in the impressive landscape between the mighty Passo Gardena, which connects the valley with Corvara in the Alta Badia, and the Passo Sella, the crossing from Selva Gardena to Canazei in the Val di Fassa valley.
These are the classic passes of the Dolomite Tour - a popular route by motorbike or car - and the Sellaronda in winter. Selva Gardena extends on both sides of the Val Gardena road. Near the village, the uninhabited Vallunga begins, leading deep into the Puez Group with the beautiful Puez-Odle Nature Park.
The surrounding mountain scenery is impressive: Hiking destinations include the Stevia Hut, the Puez Hut and Mt. Col de Puez at the end of the valley, where two smaller side valleys branch off towards the Gardenacia high plateau in the Alta Badia. At the entrance to the Vallunga stands St. Sylvester's Chapel with its frescoes, over 300 years old. Starting from the Passo Sella, you can reach the so-called Stone City where you can climb or walk around, and the Toni Demetz Mountain Hut. On the way back, you can glide through the Forcella del Sassolungo in a basket lift.
Selva has a varied programme of activities for you throughout the year. In the warmer months, this includes the riding school and the indoor tennis centre with a bowling alley, as well as the slackline park on the community meadow. In early summer, Selva Gardena becomes a hub for cycling.
This is when the Sellaronda Bike Day and the HERO Südtirol Dolomites kick off. As soon as snow blankets Selva Gardena, the Pranives Ice Stadium opens in the village. The lifts take you directly to the Ciampinoi and thus into the Val Gardena Skiing Area, which is part of Dolomiti Superski.
