Vernurio

Located on 1,090 m and boasting some 30 inhabitants only, the little village of Vernurio, part of the municipality of Rifiano, is composed of two parts, that is to say Vernurio di Sotto and Vernurio di Sopra. Prominent is above all the charming church, characterised by its wooden tower, constructed in 1840. It is dedicated to Giovanni Nepomuceno.

For those who are interested in, Vernurio offers a special sight, that is to say a Venetian sawmmill ofa bygone period, which has been reconstructed true to the original. It is powered by water and used to be the common sawmill of a series of the farmers of Vernurio for centuries.

Those who love hiking are going to love this place, too, as there is a vast network of hiking trails snaking across a breathtaking scenery. One of the most impressive trails is the Alta Via Meranese high path. In summer months, there is also a shuttle service for hikers, connecting the villages of Rifiano, Caines and Tirolo.

By the way: only in the 70s, a road from Val Passiria to the village was constructed.
