Plata di Falzes

Plata on the slope above Falzes is an ideal starting point for tours in the mid-altitude mountains of the Val Pusteria

The mountain village of Plata (Platten) - not to be confused with Plata di Perca, which is also in the Val Pusteria - is the highest hamlet belonging to the municipality of Falzes. The municipal area extends up the slope to an altitude of 1,575 metres, where a few farms and houses are scattered.

A mountain road, which starts in the centre of Falzes, leads you up to the hamlet. One of the farms is the Bärentaler Hof, the starting point for the roughly two-and-a-half-hour hike to the Bärental Mountain Hut and up to the majestic Cima Bärental peak in the Fundres Mountains. In winter, this becomes a beautiful ski tour through a wild natural landscape. On clear days, the view from the summit extends to the Zillertal Alps in the north and the Dolomites in the south.

Other mountain peaks above Plata include the Monte Dosso, a launch site for paragliders, and the Cima Plata, or Plattnerspitze. In summer, you can combine the ascent of both peaks into a two-summit traverse in Val Pusteria's low mountain range, while in winter, they are popular destinations for a ski tour with 360-degrees panoramic views. After so much activity, you will of course want to indulge a little: A lovely place for this is the Plata Hut with its sun terrace.

It serves typical alpine dishes and homemade cakes. Down in the valley, you have the choice between the award-winning gourmet highlights right next to Schöneck Castle, a pizza at the Issengo Pond, and traditional dishes with local products in the restaurants of Falzes village.
