At the end of the valley, Lake Anterselva shimmers like a gemstone through the trees of the Vedrette di Ries-Aurina Nature Park

At the head of the Valle di Anterselva, at an altitude of over 1,500 metres, lies Anterselva di Sopra, the last village before the mountain road climbs towards the Passo Stalle and on to East Tyrol. This route is popular with motorcyclists and convertible drivers. The scattered settlement itself is made up of several farms, houses and wayside shrines, such as the Brugger Stöckl and the Steinzger-Stöckl. If you enjoy being active in the fresh air, Anterselva di Sopra is the right place for you.
From the centre of Anterselva di Sopra (Antholz Obertal), you are only a short walk away from the number one destination: the deep green Lake Anterselva. You first follow the small Rio Anterselva stream until the mountain lake appears, set against the peaks of the mighty Rieserferner Group.
This natural gem is a protected area. You can walk around the lake on a nature trail that takes you over wooden footbridges and through forests, past the Huber Hut and the Tiroler Hütte. At the other end of the lake, where the road winds its way up to the Passo Stalle, the return path runs slightly above the road. There, several interactive stations also await you in the forest. Numerous mountain hikes and ski tours start from the lake - popular destinations include the Vedrette di Ries Hut, Mount Croda Rossa - a ski tour in winter - or the Monte di Dentro.
The lake is also a stage on the 11-Peak Tour, which takes you over eleven summits between the Valle di Anterselva and the Casies Valley. In winter, toboggan runs lead from the Passo Stalle, the Wöhrer Hut, and the Montale Hut directly down to the lake or to Anterselva di Sopra. Biathlon also plays a major role during the cold months: The Südtirol Arena Alto Adige by the lake hosts the Biathlon World Cup and the 2026 Winter Olympics, which will then turn the stadium into the Olympic Arena Südtirol Alto Adige. It is the home stadium of top athlete Dorothea Wierer.
