Vandoies di Sotto

A village for families on the Val Pusteria Cycle Path - with the mighty Cima di Terento towering above

Vandoies di Sotto (Niedervintl), literally Lower Vandoies, the main village of the municipality of Vandoies, was designated a "Child-Friendly Community" several years ago thanks to its local recreation area with a large playground. The village houses stretch from the tennis courts and football pitches at the Gruibnfeld area to the primary school next to the Parish Church of the Annunciation and the town hall. In Vandoies di Sotto, the Rio Fundres flows into the Rienza River, and this is also where the Val Pusteria Sun Road branches off towards the high plateau.

Towering above is Vandoies's local mountain, the Cima di Terento, for which you should be sure-footed to climb. In the Fundres Mountains, you will find other rewarding tours, for example to the Ponte di Ghiaccio Mountain Hut on the Ponte di Ghiaccio Pass or to the Gampiel Hut. The paths through the woods around the village are ideal for leisurely walks. One of them is the Stöcklhuber Path, which leads to Maranza. Another hiking trail, the one on the "Bergl" (small mountain), tells of the area's old sagas and legends. Both paths are pleasantly cool in the summer.

They are particularly appealing in spring during the blossom season and in autumn when the trees and blueberry bushes change colour. Vandoies is very well connected thanks to its stop on the Val Pusteria Railway. Right next to it runs the Pusterbike Cycle Path towards Bressanone or San Candido. Since the trains also accommodate bikes, trips to the towns of Bressanone and Brunico for shopping and culture, or to well-known tourist destinations like Sesto, are straightforward.

In winter, you can easily reach the surrounding skiing areas from here - Gitschberg Jochtal, Plose and Plan de Corones - as well as the cross-country ski tracks and winter hiking paths on the Rodengo Alp and the Luson Alp, two alpine pastures which extends into the Luson Mountains.

Mobility: Due to the construction of the Riggertal loop and safety-related works, sections of the Val Pusteria Railway will be closed until January 2026. A rail replacement bus service will be in operation. The three… read more
