Agumes (Agums) is the name of the village that is part of the Stelvio National Park municipality of Prato allo Stelvio. It is located on the local Montoni mountain, north of Prato. Here stands St. George's Chapel with the "Miraculous Lord of Agumes", a destination for many pilgrimages. This refers to a life-sized 14th-century crucifix, considered a special feature of the chapel.

Even older is St. John's Church on the other side of the main village, built at the end of the 13th century. In this oldest church in the municipality, part of the "Alpine Road of Romanesque Art - Stairway to Heaven" between South Tyrol and the Swiss Canton of the Grisons, both St Johns are venerated as patron saints. But back to Agumes: In the centre, you'll find the cemetery with a car park, which is the starting point for the family hike along the Gumperle Animal Path.

The hike takes you past the St. Georg tavern, a popular refreshment stop, and on to the chapel above it. The spot is ideal for a break, and from here you can enjoy an expansive view of the valley basin and the surrounding orchards. Now, Ferdinand the forest mouse appears, guiding young children along the circular path. She explains what bird songs sound like, what deer antlers look like, and what a woodpecker's tunnel actually is.

Further hikes lead to Montechiaro Castle and to the Montechiaro Hut near the Montechiaro Farms. The mountain hut is also accessible by mountain bike on well-maintained agricultural and forest tracks. The Frauwaal trail, in turn, connects all three hamlets of Prato allo Stelvio - Prato, Montechiaro, and Agumes - and, thanks to its short distance, is also well-suited as a family hike.
