There are three places named Caminata in South Tyrol: One is located on the Renon plateau, another in the Val di Vizze near Vipiteno, and the third is a small hamlet belonging to Campo Tures.
From here, it is only three kilometres to the centre of the main village with its shops and attractions. You can leave your car behind in Caminata (Kematen), as "Sond", the local name for Campo Tures, is just a short bus ride or a walk away. The village lies directly on the Aurino River, a wild watercourse known for its rafting tours. This is also the starting point of the protected Aurino Floodplain Forest Biotope, a Natura 2000 site. It extends as far as Stegona.
The cycle path through the Valli di Tures and Aurina follows the course of the river to Brunico, so you can pay a visit to the small town and then cycle back up the valley. Caminata is also the starting point of the St. Francis' Path, a contemplative trail dedicated to the Canticle of the Sun. It leads through the landscape of the Tures and Aurina Valleys to the Riva Waterfalls.
Accommodation options include several old farmhouses that were once part of the "Valli di Tures and Aurina Culture Mile", where farm animals and horses await you today. Today, the cultural project connects churches, mills, traditional crafts and archaeological finds between Teodone and the Passo dei Tauri mountain pass at the head of the valley. In Caminata, this includes the Churches of St. Nicholas and St. Walpurga. In winter, the Speikboden Skiing Area is nearby.
