During the “Kiekemma” cattle drive, the village in the Valle di Riva welcomes its decorated cows with a lively festival
Riva di Tures (Rein in Taufers) is located in the eponymous Valle di Riva, which branches off near Campo Tures and leads into the mountain landscape of the Collalto and the Collaspro. The valley became famous early on for its location at the foot of the Collalto, which at 3,436 metres is the highest mountain in the Rieserferner Group. Today, the area is protected as the Vedrette di Ries-Aurina Nature Park and is surrounded by 32 three-thousand-metre peaks.
At the entrance to the valley, a special natural spectacle awaits you: the Riva Waterfalls. These are three waterfalls that cascade over the rocks of the Tobl Gorge. A panoramic path leads you past this impressive natural monument to a viewing platform. The waterfalls are also a special sight in winter when they are frozen over. This is the time for ice climbing, for example on the Rio Covoni - also known as Tristenbach - or at the ice climbing area behind the Angerer snack station.
There are also cross-country ski trails for classic and skating styles, as well as a small ski lift. In high summer, a hike to the surrounding mountain pastures and huts is worthwhile. These include the Knutten Hut, the Vedrette di Ries Mountain Hut and the Roma Hut, a historic mountain hut to which numerous alpinists ascended via the Herrenweg trail as early as 1911.
For mountain bikers, Riva is an important base for the Klamml Circuit, a 100-kilometre tour that leads through the village and over the Passo di Gola into the Defereggen Valley in East Tyrol.
