Ski tour to Mount Sassolungo di Collalto

The tour to Mt. Sassolungo di Collato in Riva di Toures is a relatively long and challenging tour in the heart of the Vedrette di Ries Group

We start this spring tour in Riva di Tures (Rein in Taufers), at the Säge tavern at 1,591 m a.s.l., possibly very early in the morning. First we walk in the same direction as the ski mountaineers who would like to scale Mt. Magro or Mt. Nevoso. We traverse the bridge and walk, on the right riverside, along the path no. 8c towards the head of the valley. At 1,787 m a.s.l. we reach the Furt Mountain Hut (Furtalm), from this place we start walking up the gorge of the Val Sorgiva valley until we reach the Sorgiva Mountain Hut at 2,396 m a.s.l. (Ursprungalm), on our left.

Time for a short break, before we continue walking deeper into the valley. We reach a wide high plateau, where the routes to Mt. Sassolungo di Collalto (Lenkstein, 3,237 m a.s.l.) and Mt. Cima Barmer (Barmerspitze, 3,200 m a.s.l.) mountain in the Rieserferner Group separate. And this is where actually the fun has just begun. Across hollows and elevations we walk towards two striking rocks, where we pass in between and which make us reach a little saddle. About 200 m of altitude difference are left to the top, which has already been visible for a while now. We walk up the last steep slopes (caution!), and traverse the slope underneath the summit. We reach the ski deposit, the last metres of altitude are climbed on foot (on all fours).

The long way down is done along the way of ascent, be careful, there are crevasses!. In the forest, you can actually describe the ride down as adventuresome. Mighty spring tour in the Vedrette di Ries Group, which requires a start early in the morning. The tour is extraordinarily long and requires high Alpine experience. For the summit slope, crampons and ice picks advantageous. Long, but great spring ski tour (depending on the conditions also in high winter) on a mountain of three-thousand metres in the Vedrette di Ries Group, that requires absolutely secure conditions!
