Bolzano Christmas Market

Every year, the old town is venue for “Traditions, emotions and culture”, one of the most traditional Christmas Markets of Italy

Chains of light, festoons, the sweet flavour of cinnamon and cookies in the air, solemn Christmas carols all over - this is how the centre of Bolzano presents itself in Christmas time. Every year from the end of November to January 6th, the Walther Square is venue for a special Christmas Market: Many decorated market booths attract people from near and far. There were 80 in the last years, but the number has been slightly reduced in order to guarantee the social distancing.

Local artisans offer their products, and for this reason it is a perfect place to look for Christmas presents, such as home-made candles, glass balls or wood-carved sculptures. Of course there are also local delicacies, and you absolutely have to taste hot apple juice as well as mulled wine!

However, in the course of time many little markets have been added around the Piazza Walther square, where two winters ago the well-known Palais Campo Franco has been reopened. Among them there are the Solidary Market at the Piazza del Grano square, several art installations, the Christmas Park near the station, and some initiatives in the other districts, including the Christmas Market in Gries, the Advent in Oltrisarco-Aslago and the Winter Magic in the district of Piani.
