The Waalwege paths are easy walking trails that run alongside ancient waterways, making them very manageable with children

Centuries ago, channels were built to irrigate meadows and fields, and they still wind through South Tyrol's cultural landscape today. These "Waale" brought water from higher-altitude streams down to the valley floor, especially in the arid Val Venosta. The ones on the Malles Heath in the Upper Val Venosta, on the way to the Passo Resia, are a registered World Heritage Site.
Walks along the Waalwege paths are particularly popular in South Tyrol as they are mostly manageable with children - sometimes even with a pushchair - and provide an easy and often shady alternative to other walks and hikes.
