Hike to the Uina Gorge via the Passo Slingia

The Passo Slingia is the most important pass in the Sesvenna mountains: The footpath leads from Slingia to the Sesvenna mountain hut and across untouched natural landscapes to the legendary Uina gorge in the Engadine.

The tour we plan to do today is a rather long but not too exhausting walking tour. In Slingia, the picturesque mountain village in the eponymous valley above Malles and Burgusio, our walk starts. In the first section, the path n° 1 is asphalted and takes across the lushly green landscape to the Malga di Slingia, also called Alp Planbell (possibility to stop). A wide forested path takes to the Sesvenna mountain hut from this place. The last stage to the mountain hut is rather steep, from the waterfall to the former Pforzheimer Hütte mountain hut, where also a beautiful mountain lake is located. The Rifugio Sesvenna, located in the north of the striking Föllakopf, is given our go-by first, as we proceed on the trail no. 18 towards west.

We reach the 2,300 m high Passo Slingia, surrounded by marshland. A particularly beautiful Alpine landscape with grazing cows accompanies us to the Swiss border, located a little lower. Continuing on the valley path, we cross the meadows of the Sursass pasture and finally the Uina gorge, that was formed by the river in the course of time. As the 9 km must also be walked back, we need to go back to our starting point. Of course we don't miss to stop at the Sesvenna mountain hut. Especially in the weekends, there are many mountain bikers on the last stage of this walk.
