Hike from Montefranco to the Malga Marzon

In the Val Venosta valley, above Castelbello, the small mountain village of Montefranco is located from where we hike to the Marzon Mountain Hut

The Marzon Mountain Hut (Marzoner Alm) opens already in May and is therefore an interesting destination for a nice hike in spring. The path no. 7 to the mountain hut proceeds along forest trails and the forest road, a not demanding walking tour for everybody.

From Montefranco (Freiberg) the distance is 4.5 km. Starting at the Holy Cross Church we follow the path no. 7 which leads us through the forest and the meadows of the upper farms (here the route follows the asphalt road for a short section). Back in the wood again, the gravelled road proceeds first to the old Montefranco Saw in the valley of the Schlumsbach brook. From there we walk to the other side of the valley where the meadows of the Marzon Mountain Hut are located.

This place is ideal to relax and enjoy local delicacies with a gorgeous view on the Alpine divide. It is also possible to drive by car until the Montefranco Saw. From there, the barrier-free path up to the mountain hut can be managed within only 30 minutes.
