A leisurely walk to the Egg and Forra farms on the Val Venosta Monte Sole in autumn

The cable car takes us from Laces village up to San Martino al Monte. There, we immediately follow the signposts for the Val Venosta High Route heading west. The narrow asphalt road runs along the Monte Sole, passing first through meadows and then through a larch forest.
It is a gentle route with no significant climbs or descents - only the slope across which the path runs almost flat is steep. After about 40 minutes, we reach the Dreibrunntal, literally the valley of the three fountains, with the Egg and Forra farms, where the asphalt road ends.
Continuing west as a narrow trail, path no. 14 leads us to the ruins of the Lagar farm at the entrance to the "Vezzaner Gröben", a deep erosion gorge on the Monte Sole. From here, the walk can be extended along the Val Venosta High Route to Tappein and Monte di Silandro, or down to Coldrano and Silandro. The section from Mazia to Planol is described here.
As we only planned a short, relaxing walk on this November day, we head back to the San Martino al Monte mountain station. The hamlet is also known as St. Martin im Kofel in German. At the "Af' Egg 35" snack station, we stop for a break and watch the autumn mist slowly rolling in.
Afterwards, the cable car takes us back down to Laces. The beautiful larch forests in early November and the panoramic views are two excellent reasons to recommend this walk. Another trail leads from the mountain station in San Martino al Monte to the "Dolomitenblick" viewpoint.

- The overall time shown above refers to the walking time only, not including breaks or stops. The San Martino al Monte Cable Car operates every day, all year round. The asphalt section up to the Forra farms is also accessible with a pushchair or wheelchair - please be careful not to stray from the path, as the slope beside it drops steeply downwards!
