Autumn hike on the Val Venosta High Route

Easy walk to the Egg e Forra Farms, from San Martino al Monte across the colourful landscape of the Montesole to the original farmsteads at the steep slopes

The funicular takes us from the village of Laces (Latsch) in the lower Val Venosta valley to the little mountain village of San Martino al Monte (St. Martin im Kofel). This is where we follow the signpost "Vinschger Höhenweg" (Val Venosta High Route) towards west. Along the mountain, first across meadows and then across larch forests, the little asphalted road snakes its way. It is a comfortable route that can be walked without without any considerable ascent. The only thing that is steep is the slope, along which we walk. After about 40 minutes, we reach the Dreibrunn Valley where the farmsteads Egg and Forra are located. This is where the asphalted road ends.

As narrow path, the route signposted with the no. 14, our way proceeds towards west, and we proceed on this path until we reach the ruins of the Lagar Farm. From this place, we can proceed on the Val Venosta High Route, up to Tappein and Monte di Silandro, or walk down to Coldrano and Silandro. As today we only wanted to do a short and easy tour, we decide to walk back to the mountain station in San Martino al Monte. At the tavern Egghof we decide to have a break and watch the approaching fog, before we take the funicular down to Laces.

The particularly beautiful larch forests at the beginning of November and the view of the Val Venosta valley are two good reasons for recommending this tour. The asphalted part up to the Forra farmsteads can also be done with pram or wheelchair.
