Hiking past the Mastaun Hut to the viewpoint above the valley, continuing to the beautiful Lafetz Hut and back

This circular tour near Madonna di Senales, a moderate hike, explores the steep slopes above Madonna di Senales. Starting from the edge of the village, specifically from the archeoParc Val Senales (which is well worth a visit, by the way), we follow signpost no. 19 towards the Lafetz Hut along the forest road until we reach the Mastaun Farm. There, we turn right into Mastaun Valley.
Path no. 17A leads to the Mastaun Hut and continues as a trail deeper into the valley. Shortly after the Mastaun Hut, we reach a crossroads where we turn onto path no. 19. This leads up the steep slope to the Monte Lafetz, or Mastaunpichl. Walking through a partly rocky landscape thick with alpine roses, gnarled larches, and Arolla pines, we finally reach the highest point of our circular hike at an altitude of almost 2,300 metres above sea level.
The Monte Lafetz opens up views across to the Similaun in the Oetztal Alps. The path now flattens out, and the descent begins shortly afterwards. Following the signpost for "Lafetzalm", we eventually arrive at the newly built, serviced alpine hut. Whether for lunch, a traditional afternoon snack, or a coffee break, the Lafetz Hut is always a great spot for a rest. From here, we finally descend back into the valley by following the alpine pasture road, which is a forest track.
Alternatively, there is trail no. 19, which runs straight through the forest and is somewhat steeper, but shorter than the forest track. Alongside the alpine pastures, the blooming alpine roses are a highlight in June, as is the view, if you have a little more luck with the weather.
