Nova Levante is picturesquely situated at the foot of the Catinaccio, between the upper Val d’Ega and the Passo di Costalunga
The rear part of the Val d'Ega is accessible via two roads that branch off in the middle of the valley: One leads to Nova Ponente with Obereggen, while the eastern one goes to Nova Levante and continues to the well-known Lake Carezza.
Next is the Passo di Costalunga, the crossing into the Trentino Val di Fassa. The municipal area includes Nova Levante - a settlement along the Val d'Ega road - as well as Carezza village on the pass. The relatively small Lake Carezza is located on the winding mountain road between these two districts.
It is a special natural sight: Its water shimmers emerald green in the sunlight, reflecting the mountain massifs of Catinaccio and Latemar. The surroundings of the lake extend across alpine meadows and high forests up to the rock faces.
Numerous legends from this area tell of King Laurin and his Rose Garden and the Water Fairy of Lake Carezza. At the Passo di Costalunga, about two kilometres above the lake, the lifts of the Carezza Dolomites Ski Area begin. The pass is also an attractive destination in winter, especially if you spend your winter holiday in Nova Levante. In addition to slopes of all difficulty levels and the Carezza Snowpark at the Catinaccio, there is also the one-kilometre long Hubertus toboggan run.
It takes you from the mountain station to the valley station in Carezza village. The cross-country ski trails at the Costalunga Pass lead to the Angerle Hut and the Tscheiner Hut on the Nigra Pass.
