The Sciliar-Catinaccio Nature Park owes its name to South Tyrol’s emblem, Mt. Sciliar in the western Dolomites, and to the legendary Catinaccio Group

Together with the Siusi Alp, Europe's largest Alpine pasture covering an area of 56 sq km, the Sciliar-Catinaccio Nature Park - "Naturpark Schlern-Rosengarten" in German, "Parco Naturale Sciliar-Catinaccio" in Italian - is a coherent area in respect of natural conditions and landscape. The Sciliar Nature Park was founded in 1974 around the Sciliar Massif, which gave it its name - with the two peaks Cima Santner and Cima Euringer it is considered to be the landmark of South Tyrol.
In 2003 the area of the nature reserve has been enlarged, also the Catinaccio Massif is now included in the Sciliar-Catinaccio Nature Park. Nowadays, the 7,291 hectare large nature park covers the three municipalities of Castelrotto, Fiè allo Sciliar and Tires al Catinaccio and offers two information points: A visitor centre can be found in the new building in Siusi allo Sciliar, a further information point is located near the Fiè Pond. Two theme paths are in the area: The 9.5 km long "Geologists' Trail" takes you from Bagni di Razzes to the Prossliner Mountain Hut. The circular trail shows the fascinating world of geology. The nature trail "Oswald von Wolkenstein" with its 15 stations, however, can be found in the Castelvecchio Forest near Siusi.
