The Madritschjoch, or Passo del Madriccio: the mountain bike challenge from the hamlet of Solda di Fuori

Solda di Fuori (Aussersulden), in the municipality of Stelvio, appears shortly before you reach the village of Solda. The Rio Solda stream flows through the Solda Valley, which is entirely protected within the Stelvio National Park. Lined by the Lasa Mountains and the Monte Cavallaccio Ridge, the valley winds its way ever upwards. Further into the valley, the glaciers of the Ortles Alps rise.
In Solda di Fuori, more precisely in the hamlet of Unterthurn, there is a bus stop and a few farms and houses scattered across the meadows. From here, a particularly challenging tour for mountain bikers begins: the route to the Passo del Madriccio, which is one of the most remarkable in the entire area. Those wishing to save some altitude gain can take the cable car further up the valley in Solda and have their bikes transported to the Città di Milano Mountain Hut (Schaubachhütte).
From there, the route leads through high alpine terrain to the 3,125-metre-high Madritschjoch, the crossing from the Solda Valley into the Val Martello. In winter, the ski slopes start here. Only an eight-minute bus ride separates Solda di Fuori from Solda itself, which offers several attractions for families. These include two places particularly suitable for children: the Bear Bath, an adventure area designed with natural materials, and the NATURAronda, a trail with a suspension bridge.
In winter, when a thick blanket of snow covers the Solda Valley, the area shows a different side: Cross-country skiers glide along the high-altitude trail on the valley floor, ice climbers test their skills on the frozen waterfalls of the Legerwand, and the ski slope of the Pulpito Cable Car regularly transforms into a night toboggan run.
