In Caprile, a hamlet at 1,100 m a.s.l. along the road to the Passo Palade mountain pass, you'll find a rustic little farmstead beneath the street. A few years ago, the old mountain farm was taken over by the owner family of the nearby Gfrillerhof inn and has been transformed into a real natural oasis, surrounded by beautiful meadows and forests: the Rainguthof Animal World.
This large area is the home of numerous animals, who can be visited all the year. Especially the young visitors are real fans of the ponies, dwarf goats, peacocks, horses, sheep, donkeys, ducks, geese, turtles, deer and more. Also old domestic animal breeds such as woolly Mangalica pigs and Racka sheep, two Australian emus as well as two camels, Laika and Alibaba, live at the Rainguthof. From the meadow behind the bricked farmstead you can enjoy a gorgeous view on Bolzano and the peaks with the mighty Catinaccio Group, famous for the legend of King Laurin.
While spring is a favourite season with the animal babies at the Rainguthof, summer offers pleasant refreshing mornings at this place. During autumn, the surrounding brightly coloured forests invite to several walks and hikes. A snack-bar with a sunny terrace, however, invites to take a rest, moreover seasonal particularities are offered, like roasted chestnuts in autumn and open-air theatre performances around Christmas time. And how to reach the Rainguthof Animal World? The road leads from Nalles or Lana towards Tesimo, and further on in the direction of the Palade Pass. The farm is located beneath the street, parking is available.
