At the Val Pusteria road, near the bus stop of Casteldarne (Ehrenburg), a small road branches off towards east. It leads to the forest on the north side of the valley. There the hiking path no. 8A starts which first runs flatly and then slightly uphill across the Liensberg Meadows and further towards Campolino. In April and May numerous heralds of spring bloom here. The forest path leads into an asphalt road. A little further on the path no. 6 branches off on the right (down toward the valley). The trail leads slightly downhill along a steep slope to the meadows of Castelbadia.
Castelbadia (Sonnenburg) is a small village in the municipality of San Lorenzo di Sebato with a number of well-kept historic buildings. At the edge of the village, the eponymous castle is located, Badia Castle. The castle, partly ruined and partly rebuilt, has a long history. Once it was the centre of an important Benedictine land estate which comprised large parts of South Tyrol. Emperor Joseph II of Austria secularized the property - today the castle is a hotel. From the building you have a magnificent view on the Val Pusteria valley near San Lorenzo di Sebato (St. Lorenzen).
At the end we follow the road towards Fassine (Fassing) for a short while and after a short ascent we take the path no. 17, which leads directly down to San Lorenzo di Sebato. If you don't want to walk back again, you can take the train from S. Lorenzo di Sebato to Casteldarne near Chienes.
