Advent in Tyrol Castle

Christmas magic between the historic walls of Castel Tirolo during the traditional Christmas market

On two long Advent weekends Tyrol Castle turns into a wonderful Christmas landscape. In other periods of the year visitors admire the collections of the South Tyrolean Museum of Culture and Provincial History and watch eagles and owls during their flight shows. In December, however, everything focusses on handicraft, music and reflective moments.

Advent at Castel Tirolo (Tiroler Schlossadvent) is organised by the Tourist Association of the village of Tirolo and includes activities for children as well: a creative workshop and a Bobby live show in the Knights' Hall guarantee great fun. Adults can admire traditional handicrafts and listen to concerts. Local delicacies are prepared in the courtyard of the castle. The rich programme also includes the Christmas play "When the Forest Animals Saved Christmas" by the Merano Maia theatre group and the Krampus parade**.

Castel Tirolo can be reached in a 30-minute walk along the Via del Castello. Alternatively, in case of good weather, you can undertake a pleasant carriage tour from the square in front of the church (Kirchplatz) in the centre of Tirolo village to the entrance of the castle along the Via del Castello (Schlossweg).
