Corvara: Holidays in Alta Badia amidst Dolomite peaks and a nature park

Corvara, one of the five Ladin municipalities in the Alta Badia, is surrounded by imposing peaks that are part of the Sella, Fanes, and Puez mountain groups. These lie within the Puez-Odle Nature Park, one of eight protected areas in South Tyrol.

The hamlets of Pescosta and Colfosco spread out around the main village of Corvara, extending to the valley stations of the cable cars and the Alta Badia Golf Club, named "Tranrüs".

As early as the 18th century, young men guided visitors who came to the rear part of the Val Badia into the surrounding mountains. Initially, these were mainly natural scientists and geologists from Great Britain wishing to explore the Dolomites. Wealthy travellers from other countries later followed.

For this reason, the village is considered the "Cradle of tourism in the Alta Badia". The first lift was constructed in 1938, and a ski school followed after the Second World War. Corvara thus developed into a popular hiking and winter sports resort: From here, you can reach both Mt. Piz Boè, regarded as the easiest three-thousander in the Dolomites, and, in winter, the Sellaronda - the ski tour around the Sella Group within the Alta Badia Skiing Area.

Between June and July, Corvara becomes a hub for cyclists. First, the Sellaronda Bike Day is held, when the roads and passes around the Sella Group are closed to traffic. This allows you to experience this mountain landscape in a unique way. Afterwards, the Maratona dles Dolomites for road cyclists follows, where participants tackle the challenge of seven Dolomite passes.
