South Tyrolean fruit growers harvest their fruits with lots of care and love. Especially known are South Tyrolean apples and apricots. Because nowhere else apricots are growing better than in Val Venosta.
Apricots actually are growing only in southern latitudes and thus loving the warmth and the sun, lots of wind and fertiles soils. Sunny Val Venosta exactly matches these criteria and, thus, features large fields of apricot trees.
In South Tyrol’s sunny south is mainly known for its apple harvest. It is in the middle of August that farmers start picking the first apples. In Val Pusteria, however, the farmers are busy harvesting potatoes, while in Val Martello and Val d’Isarco they pick strawberries; but already in summer. Finally there are a number of plum, khaki, pear, cherry and fig trees that have to be picked.
> By the way: Those going on holidays in this time of the year, shouldn’t miss fruit picking. Not only watching it but also tasting the fruits promises a special kind of experience!
