The Laghi del Corvo lake plateau is located on the ridge where the Val d’Ultimo and the Val di Rabbi meet

The starting point for our September excursion is Santa Gertrude, the last village in the Val d'Ultimo valley. We start at the church, first following path no. 106 to the forest and then crossing the Montechiesa stream until we reach forest road no. 108. Walking past the Köllgrub Hut, we hike steadily and gently uphill through Valle di Montechiesa, or Kirchbergtal, to the Montechiesa Hut.
It is a rustic place to stop for refreshments at an impressive altitude of 1,890 metres in the Maddalene Mountain Chain, and then continue to the Bärhapp Hut. The path gradually becomes steeper, and from the Bärhapp Hut it is just a trail through the rocky, high-alpine landscape above the tree line. It is not much further to the Passo di Rabbi on the watershed that connects South Tyrol's Val d'Ultimo and Trentino's Val di Rabbi. The area belongs to the Stelvio National Park.
A signpost here points the way to the trail leading to the Laghi del Corvo (Haselgruber Seen). It first takes us to a smaller mountain lake, and then to the two large ones at altitudes of 2,450 and 2,540 metres above sea level. Before heading back, we visit the Rifugio Stella Alpina al Lago Corvo, or Edelweiss Hut, below the pass, which is still on the Trentino side.
Here we gather our strength for the almost nine-kilometre descent. We return along the same route. Overall, this hike is not particularly demanding - the "difficult" rating is due to its six-hour duration and the altitude difference (uphill and downhill) of over 1,000 metres per direction.
