Hike to Lake Tret

Gorgeous weather and temperatures approaching the 30-degree mark as early as the beginning of April make these spring weeks ideal for relaxing days in the mountains. With this heat, we can already visit higher altitudes, so we decide on a hike to Lake Tret (Felixer Weiher) in the Upper Val di Non. The small mountain lake is located above San Felice in the Nonsberg Group.

This is the area where bilingual South Tyrol and Italian-speaking Trentino meet. We park our car at the Klamm parking space slightly above the village and follow path no. 9. The wide forest road leads us without much effort through sparse woodland and across meadows where crocuses are already blooming in light violet and white.

Continuing along path no. 9, we reach Lake Tret at an altitude of 1,604 metres after about an hour. The contrast could not be greater: The temperatures feel like early summer, there is still some snow along the edge of the path, and the lake itself remains covered in ice and snow.

However, nature is awakening at this altitude too: Heather and crocuses bloom on the shores of the protected biotope. We walk around the lake, which is also known as Lago di Santa Maria or Felixer Weiher, while information boards explain the flora and fauna of the area. Afterwards, we decide to take a break at the San Felice Mountain Hut. Finally, path no. 50 leads us back to our car.
