Enjoying the sun during the final days of October: This trail on the southern slopes of the Giovo Ridge is perfect for it
Image gallery: Hike along the Sun Path to Stulles
Experiencing an almost cloudless autumn day on the sunny slopes of the Val Passiria is our goal for this October day. We start in Valtina on the Passo di Monte Giovo road. From the village centre, we first follow path no. 17 downhill towards San Leonardo. We then take path no. 9A towards Le Coste and Stulles. Because we set off early, the first section is still in the shade.
This changes as we approach the radio mast on the corner near Le Coste, a scattered settlement in a sunny location. Sun and a fantastic view of the valley await us here. We head down across the autumnal meadows and pastures to the small Church of St. Christopher and St. Hippolytus.
Path no. 9 alternates between an asphalted road and forest trails, leading us past waterfalls to Stulles in the Upper Val Passiria, which spreads out on a small terrace above the valley. After our lunch break, we follow path no. 10A to St. Anthony's Chapel.
We then hike further down to Moso in Passiria. From there, we take the local bus back to our starting point in Valtina (changing buses in San Leonardo).
