Ski tour to Mount Muro di Luson

Starting point for this easy but worthwhile tour is the hamlet of Pezzè, at the head of the Valle di Luson valley

Mt. Muro di Luson (Lüsner Maurerberg) is the most known tour for ski mountaineers in the Luson Valley. Starting point is the village of Pezzè (Petschied) in the rear part of Luson at 1,120 m a.s.l., at the confluence of two rivers, where on the left across the bridge, you can find a little parking space. We walk across a field, past the Prader Farm, and reach a forested trail, whose course we are following. Only a short section is cut across the forest. The ascent through the forest is not really adventuresome, that's the only downer of this tour. At the Pardell, or Egger Mountain Hut (Pardeller Alm, Egger Alm), the path for the forst time provides a view of the 2,322 m high Mt. Muro in the Luson Mountains, but the summit seems nearer than it actually is.

After a rift (avalanche prone) we walk towards the pass Luson Pass (Lüsner Joch), that provides a great panoramic view on the Dolomites. We follow the signposts to Mt. Muro di Luson, directed to the summit. Now we can see the summit slope. We descend for some metres down to the saddle, only a few hairpin bends are left to the highest point. Absolutely breathtaking is the view of the Dolomites with the Putia Group in the foreground, as well as the high plateau of the Rodengo Alp.

We ski down along the path on which we came, in case of secure conditions you could also take the direct route down the north-oriented slope of the mountain. The way down is a delight, no traces and perfect snow. From the Pardell Hut we start skiing down on the forested road, back to our starting point. Worthwhile tour that is not highly frequented. Without any skiing techniques difficulty. Don't choose the direct way down if the conditions are not absolutely secure, as this slope is avalanche-prone. Easy ski tour without technical difficulties, quite long and boring ascent on the forest road, but fairytale panoramic view and a great downhill ride through powder snow!
