Italy’s only convertible cable car takes you from the mountain village of San Cipriano to the Frommer Hut on the Catinaccio
The small village of San Cipriano (St. Zyprian) is located past Tires, the main village in the valley, at the turn-off into the Val Ciamin and towards Bagni di Lavina Bianca. This is also home to the little Church of St. Cyprian, which gave the village its name. It is dedicated to Saints Cyprian and Justina of Antioch and was built in the 13th century. The church's exterior features a mural, added at a later date, depicting the legend of the Platzliner Meadow: God hurled lightning bolts from the sky, and Cyprian and Justina held their cloaks protectively over the grazing herd on the meadow.
Today, the village is popular with those seeking peace and quiet and with nature lovers, who use it as a starting point for tours such as the Mt. Catinaccio d'Antermoia Route and the mountain tour around Mt. Catinaccio. In winter, the trails can also be explored on snowshoes or touring skis. Above San Cipriano, the "Proa", an alpine meadow, stretches out. From here, you can get a particularly good view of the alpenglow at sunset - a perfect end to a day in the mountains.
With its new link to the Frommer Hut at an altitude of 1,740 metres, San Cipriano provides direct access to the hiking area at the foot of the Catinaccio Group, which transforms into the Carezza Dolomites Ski Area in winter. The convertible cable car is a unique experience.
The concept is the first of its kind in Italy: From a panoramic balcony, you can enjoy a front-row view of the mountain ascent in the fresh air. The cable car has room for 60 people, 10 of whom can experience this exclusive adventure on the open-air panoramic balcony of the gondola.
