A trail for all the senses to walk through nature with open eyes and ears, following the symbol of the squirrel
Image gallery: Hike on the Nature Trail of Campo Tures
For two decades, the well-known Campo Tures Nature Trail has taught visitors to understand and experience the Tures and Aurina Valleys and the river landscape along the Aurino with all their senses. The symbol along the route is an orange squirrel, and display boards line the path to introduce you to the local flora and fauna. The almost six-kilometre circular route was funded equally by the municipality of Campo Tures and the Nature Parks Office.
Touching, exploring, remembering, and reflecting are the skills you can practise along the trail. It starts at the Town Hall Square near the Vedrette di Ries-Aurina Visitor Centre in Campo Tures, where a brochure about the route is available. The path first leads us north. After 50 metres, we cross the Aurino. This wild river is also known for its rafting trips. We then walk along the riverbank until we reach the start of the Passeggiata del Castello (castle promenade).
We walk through the old toll portal. The gravel road takes us past the imposing Tures Castle (which is well worth visiting) in a northeasterly direction. A wonderful view of the Tures and Aurina Valleys delights us. This continues for almost an hour, after which the Campo Tures Nature Trail heads downhill again to the river. Protected by shady trees, we walk along the right bank until we reach the Cascade natural bathing pond. Afterwards, we cross the road.
We then return through meadows and woods to our starting point: the fountain at the Town Hall Square. The highlight of the themed trail is a viewing platform at treetop height.
