From the swimming pool to the Gilf Waterfall and back - with a ball run as a highlight
Image gallery: Circular hike to the Gilf Waterfall
The San Martino in Passiria outdoor pool, which invites you for a refreshing dip in the summer, is the starting point for the leisurely hike to the Gilf Waterfall. The route is just over two kilometres long and takes around 45 minutes, making it well-suited for families with children.
However, the route is not suitable for pushchairs. After crossing the river, we follow trail no. 1A to the Haselstaude inn and then switch to trail no. 1C, which takes you on the circular hike to the Gilf Waterfall. At the inn, you can buy the special wooden ball to send it racing down the ball run at the waterfall - fun for the whole family! It is fascinating due to its simple yet ingenious design.
We find the wooden balls also at a vending machine directly on the circular path, alternatively they are available in advance from any tourist information office in the Val Passiria.
The waterfall itself is not particularly high - there are much higher ones in South Tyrol - but it is an ideal spot for some summer refreshment and a popular destination for an outing. Incidentally, the circular route in San Martino in Passiria is accessible all year round.
