Rural Christmas Markets

Besides the five Original South Tyrolean Christmas Markets there are some more in different villages all over South Tyrol.

Every single one of the following Christmas Markets is unique, but what they have in common is an authentic ambience with local crafts and a pleasant social programme. Most of them take place on the Advent weekends or - additionally - on special occasions such as St. Nicholas Day (December 6) or the feast day of the Immaculate Conception on December 8:

  • "Val Passiria Christmas", consisting of "Martiner Sternstundn" (Magic moments) in San Martino, "Liechtr'Zeit" (Time of lights) in San Leonardo, "Advent in Moso" and "Advent in Rifiano"

  • "Advent Farmers' Market" in Scena with Advent experiences in historic cellars, Christmas carols, traditional handicraft and local delicacies

  • "Lagundo Christmas Market" on the church square of Lagundo with wooden stands offering gift ideas, hot drinks, traditional delicacies and Christmas cookies

  • "Star-Money Christmas Market" above the Capuchin Garden in Lana, a cosy Christmas Market with 20 stands, open till late for New Year's Eve

  • "LichterWeihnacht" (Christmas Lights) in Appiano with a magical Christmas atmosphere, handicraft products, Christmas carols and mulled wine on the town hall square of San Michele

  • " 's Kalterer Christkindl", the Christmas Market on the main square of Caldaro village with horse-drawn carriage rides, a torch dance and the traditional visit of St. Nicholas and the Krampus

  • "Val Sarentino Alpine Advent" in the alleys of Sarentino, organised by the merchants of the Val Sarentino valley, with carriage rides, live wood carving and a shepherds' parade

  • "Renon Christmas Train Market" in Soprabolzano and Collalbo, a special Christmas Market along the track of the "Renon Train" with concerts, sweets and an entertainment programme

  • "Medieval Christmas" in the old town of Chiusa, illuminated by torches and candles, with jugglers and fire shows, choirs and market stands in the old cellars of the town

  • "Magic Christmas at Lake Carezza" near Nova Levante in the Val d'Ega valley, a Christmas Market in front of the stunning setting of Lake Carezza and the Latemar and Catinaccio massifs

  • "Castelrotto Mountain Christmas" on the main square of Castelrotto with South Tyrolean delights and a folk music concert of the famous local band "Kastelruther Spatzen"

  • "Ortisei, the Christmas Village" in the Val Gardena valley with wooden huts called "Lodenlounges", regional products, culinary delicacies and daily events

  • "Christmas Market for Families" in Santa Cristina in the Val Gardena valley for kids and families - of course also St. Nicholas and his little helper Ruprecht are part of it

  • "Mountain Christmas in Selva Gardena" in the Val Gardena valley with a Christmas Market with mountain village charm, called "Nadel da mont" in Ladin language

  • "Corvara Christmas Market" in the Alta Badia with a Christmas Market called "Marcé da Nadé" on the main square, handicraft and a life-size nativity scene

  • "Tures Advent" in the Valli di Tures and Aurina, consisting of "Christmas in the magic forest at the waterfalls", "Christmas at Speikboden" and the "Christmas Village" in Campo Tures

  • "Braies Mountain Christmas" (is not taking place in 2019) on the shore of Lake Braies with the visit of St. Nicholas, horse-drawn carriage rides and a barn with donkeys, sheep and goats

  • "Christmas in the Dolomites" in the alleys of San Candido in the Upper Val Pusteria, a cosy Christmas Market offering local handicraft and traditions

These special Christmas Markets, however, based on naturalness and warmth, are opened on just one or two weekends in the Advent period:

  • "Tyrolean Advent in the Castle" in the historic ambience of Tirolo Castle offers a crib exhibition, handicraft, a charity concert and a petting zoo for children

  • "Glorenza Advent Market" - according to the motto "lights, scents, sounds" - takes place within the medieval walls of the smallest town of South Tyrol

  • "Martello Advent Market" at the Rif. Genziana mountain hut (2,061 m a.s.l.) in the Val Martello valley, situated in the Stelvio National Park, is the highest located Christmas Market of the Alps

The 2020 edition of the South Tyrolean Christmas Markets has been cancelled.
